Be your own Valentine too!!

I wanted to share with you all the conversation I had with my daughter in the car this morning. 
On our way to Helen Bernhard to pick up 32 adorable Valentine's day cupcakes for her school party 
she asked...

"Why do some people not like Valentine's day?"

Me: "Well..."

(my inner voice: because there is so much pressure to be the perfect husband, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, Mom or Dad today... because today I'm spending $45 and driving across town to purchase 32 cupcakes from the best bakery in Portland for your classmates all to make sure you feel like your Mom is just the best Mom in the whole wide world today!!)

Me: "Well, I think people feel like they have to have somebody to be their Valentine, or be in love, or have somebody "special" to share the day with today. Perhaps if someone felt like they didn't have that kind of person Valentines day might make them feel badly about it. " 

She sat and thought for a moment...looking out the window in the backseat of the car/

My daughter: "Well everyone has themselves. You could be your own Valentine. You could buy yourself a big box of chocolates and eat all of them without having to share."

(my Inner voice: WOW!! She's so smart!! PLEASE let her keep that feeling!!)

Me: "You are a very smart girl. I think that is a great idea!! Loving yourself on Valentine's day and all your days is so important. And not having to share your chocolates is good too."


My Daughter: "Having a Valentine is nice too though." 


Me: "Yeah, it is." (BIG smile across my face)

Remember today and every day to be your own Valentine too!!
